Iranian artists condemn desecration of Qur’an in Sweden

Iranian theater artists have strongly condemned the desecration of a copy of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, theater artists and the Dramatic Arts Center expressed their anger over the desecration of the Qur’an in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

They condemned it as a “shameful act”, and called for bringing the case to court.

Last week, a man stomped on the Qur’an before setting several pages alight in front of a mosque in Stockholm after receiving a permit from the Swedish authorities.

The incident sparked anger in the Muslim world and triggered protests against the move.

Iraq has announced that it had received an apology letter from the Swedish government in which it expressed “deep regret” over the Qur’an burning incident.
